National Trust Wales implores Harry Potter fans to stop leaving socks on Dobby’s grave. Fans of the popular Harry Potter series have been paying their respects by leaving socks at Freshwater West Beach, Wales.

This beach is where the movie “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1” filmed Dobby’s death scene. The movie came out in 2010 and Harry Potter fans have been visiting the beach and leaving things on his memorial ever since. The socks are left for Dobby because he was gifted freedom after his master Lucius Malfoy is tricked into giving him an article of clothing.

According to the website Insider, National Trust Wales told fans that “they’re putting wildlife at risk by leaving items at the site.” The New York Times claims that the National Trust Wales said the socks may even make it into the food chain.

An eight-month survey of the area was conducted to determine whether the memorial needed to be removed. For now, the National Trust has given a warning not to leave anything at the beach anymore and to only take photos.
